LAST MEETING (October 6th)

Mark Farley, Head Football Coach, University of Northern (UNI) Iowa spoke to the club about his current football season and other exciting events coming up at UNI. The annual homecoming game will occur on Saturday, October 11th. During that game, numerous individuals and team members will be inducted into the UNI Athletic Hall of Fame. The newest Hall members are former football player Joe Fuller; former student-athlete, coach and athletics administrator Lynn King; former basketball player John Martin; former track and field athlete and football player Kenny Shedd; former baseball player Tom Simpson; and UNI's 1977 softball team. Also being inducted is long-time supporter of UNI athletics, Bob Beach, who will receive the Dr. Jitu D. Kothari Meritorious Service Award.  Currently in the top ten of the coach’s poll, Coach Farley spoke about UNI’s first five football games which included win’s against South Dakota (24-13), South Dakota State (34-20) and Nicholls State (34-14), with losses against a BYU (41-17) team expected to go undefeated in 2008 and against Southern Illinois (27-24). Coach Farley indicated that this UNI team is a playoff contender and boasts the best defensive line of all the state colleges. In addition, Pat Grace, who Coach Farley also indicates is the best quarterback in the state, is maturing into a more confident and capable quarterback each game. Unfortunately, some of the playmakers are a little beat up, including running back Corey Lewis, who was hurt in the Nicholls State game and Johnny Gray, who has had some nagging injuries early in the season. Coach Farley thanked the community, boosters, fans and all individuals that have made UNI an annual Division 1AA football power year after year.
