PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (June 16th)

Fellow Lions, it has been quite a week since last Monday when we cancelled our picnic and golf outing.  I am sure there are many stories of Lion members in action to help save downtown Cedar Falls from flooding.  I am also sure there will be plenty of opportunities for us to serve in North Cedar and other communities as Iowa comes back from this record 500 year flood. We have our Sturgis pancake breakfast coming up on June 29th at the Cedar Falls Community Center and we will need everyone to sign up for a shift as many hands make the work go easier and makes it a fun event.

LAST MEETING (June 2nd)

Hunter Cappoccioni – Artistic Director and Founder of the Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival spoke to the club. In it’s third season, the Cedar Valley Chamber Music Festival (CVCMF) showcases local and regional musicians performing diverse repertoire in intimate settings. With a focus on acoustic instrumental and vocal music, CVCMF musicians perform in small ensembles in order to take music off the concert stage and bring it to venues that blur the lines between performers and audience. It is Hunter’s belief that a real sense of community arises through the promotion of our diverse cultural history. This season the CVCMF is combining chamber music with Cedar Valley history to display the cultures, people and events that have contributed to our communities’ narrative. With historical programs that feature rare repertoire and exciting collaborations with visiting artists, this year’s concert series promises to be among the most engaging arts events taking place in the Cedar Valley.
