LAST MEETING (August 18th)
Cedar Falls High School Football Co-Head Coach Brad Remmert
spoke to the Club about the upcoming 2008 football season.
The Tigers 11-2 and State Semifinalists last season – return
16 lettermen and several others with playoff experience in 2008. The offense will feature returning
quarterback Kyle Bernard (son of fellow Lion Steve Bernard). He completed 60% of his passes in 2007 for
1800 yards and 19 touchdowns. His main
target will be TE Darion Howard who caught 23 passes and 3 touchdowns. The offensive line returns several starters
and letterman including Nate Staudt, Michael Bangtson, Aaron Green, and Nick
Challgren. The defense returns five starters from a team that gave up only 9.6
points per game in 2007. All-stater Jeff
Hanson and Collin Albrecht will anchor the front seven, while Wes Boyer, Jake
Farley, and Jay Brummel are returning starters in the secondary. Coach Remmert noted that Jeff Conrad (son of
fellow Lion Dan Conrad) is competing for a starting position on this season’s
defense. Kyle Bernard returns to handle the punting duties while Riley Morris
returns as the placekicker and kickoff specialist. Several incoming juniors,
from a team that went 8-1 as sophomores, will be looked upon to fill in the
gaps left from a senior class that had a 20-3 record the last two seasons. The 2008
schedule will be very challenging with 5 road games again this season in a
tough Mississippi Valley Conference.
