LAST
MEETING (January 14th)
Ron Gaines, Director of
Developmental Services, City of Cedar
Falls, provided the club with an extensive list of
projects that the City is completing in the coming months or years. Mr. Gaines indicated that Cedar
Falls has not seen some of the construction recession
found in other parts of the country.
Currently, at the beginning of January, the City has issued 37 more
building permits than they did during the same time in FY07. Some of the larger commercial addition
projects include Iowa Laser, Martin Brothers and Wayne Engineering. Other projects include the State Street
Commercial/Residential development and possibly residential and commercial
improvements on the former Broom Factory site.
Recent
street projects include opening of Viking
Road from Highway 58 to Cedar
Heights Drive.
This section of roadway opens additional development opportunities east
of Highway 58. Target retail is planning
to break ground in 6-8 months on the SE corner of Highway 58 and Viking
Road.
Portions of University
Avenue have been or will be
reconstructed from Hudson Road to
Highway 58 by 2009. In addition, the
City is in the process of identifying a consultant to design the remainder of University
Avenue from Highway 58 to Waterloo. Phase II of the College Hill Streetscape
improvements will begin spring as well.
Each year the City reconstructs numerous streets and this coming year is
no exception. In addition, detention and
storm water control projects are planned on Hudson
Road and 19th
Street and downstream of the University
Avenue detention basin near Panther
Lane.
IT'S GREAT TO BE A
LION!
