PRESIDENT’S
MESSAGE (October 15th)
I suspect it surprised most of you last week when I announced a job
change. Time prevented me from sharing
details, but here’s the whole scoop.
I’ll be leaving Cedar Falls on
November 2 to become the Director of the Planning, Zoning & Building
Department for the Town of Palm Beach. Palm
Beach lies on the Atlantic about 60 miles north of Miami with a
summertime population of 10,000 that swells to 30,000 in the cold winter
months. The job responsibilities there
closely mirror those of my present position with the City of Cedar
Falls. The hiring
process was slower than I anticipated, but gave me plenty of time to weigh all
the pros and cons that such a move would create. I’m feeling confident that this change will
be a positive career move.
I’ll be leaving Cedar
Falls, and the Lions Club, with deep regret. There is much to be said for the community
spirit here. I’ve been blessed with many
years of good old CF hospitality, friendship and support. This place will always be a part of me. My years as a Cedar Falls Lion have been
rewarding as well as fun and I take pride in our many accomplishments.
We Serve ……… John Page

LAST MEETING (October
8th)
Jeff Kurtz, Director, Cedar
Falls Historical Society, and Campaign Chair, Don Redfern, will spoke to the
club about the, Cedar Falls Historical Society and the "Keeping our
Heritage Alive Campaign." Jeff
provided the club with some history related to the founding of the Historical
Society and when the existing building structures such as the museum location
at 3rd & Clay, Ice House Museum, Rapp
Station, Wyth House and Little Red School House on 1st
street. The Historical Society would not
be where they are today without the dedication of numerous volunteers and
generous donations from citizens in the community. among them include: Dorothy
Wyth, Genevieve Woodbridge, George
& Alice Brown and Joe & Grace Clay. Don spoke about the endowment fund
drive currently underway. The Cedar Falls Historical Society needs to
significantly increase revenues to maintain and upgrade the communities existing
museums and also respond to education and preservation needs. For more
