PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (November 12th)

Fellow Lions ...  We will have our monthly board meeting tomorrow and we will try to set a date for our, “Bring a Guest Luncheon”.  We are trying to schedule a special speaker and once that has been done we will announce the date.  Start to consider who you might invite to Lions Club for that luncheon.  I would also like to thank our group of Lions that go out and test local children for eye disease.  This is a commitment of time that they give to our community and if you have a chance you should try to join them. I hope I can sometime this year.

LAST MEETING (November 5th)

Scott Cooley, Fund Development Coordinator for Sartori Health Care Foundation, provided the Club with information related to the 2007 Festival of Trees Celebration. Traditional events such as the Gala, Teddy Bear Tea, Style Show, Santa’s Workshop, Bake Sale, Ballet and Jingle Bell Rock will surely be a success in 2007. New events have also been added to that list that will “Rock your socks off.”

The Red Hatters will be sock-hopping a little later this year as we have turned the event into an afternoon tea.  Speed Dating, another addition, is a pre-event to our Jingle Bell Rock. Speed Dating is a fun and exciting way to go on several dates in just one night! The GTOs from Des Moines will be Rockin’ and Rollin’ at the Jingle Bell Rock. Twist lessons will be provided for those who may have forgotten the once popular dance crave.

The Festival of Trees Committee has teamed-up with Community Main Street, the Cedar Falls Historical Society, the Cedar Falls Women’s Club, the Hearst Center for the Arts and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center to bring you the first ever Sartori Lights Up Downtown Parade and Tree Lighting. The event will kick-off at the lighting of the Sartori Tree on the 400 block of Main Street. The first Festival of Trees parade will travel down Main Street and finish at Overman Park for the annual tree lighting while the UNI Men’s Glee Club performs. Also at the end of the route the Cedar Falls Historical Society will have its annual Christmas Walk. Santa, hot apple cider, weavers, a children’s choir and a chamber ensemble will be at various historical homes.

Drop, Shop and Roll is another new event. The Hearst Center for the Arts and the Cedar Falls Recreation Center teamed-up to have a kid’s craft night at the Cedar Falls Community Center. Parents may drop their kids off and then shop at the downtown stores. Several downtown merchants will have special offers for shoppers in support of this event.
