LAST MEETING (November 19th)

Doni and Chad Harms are the owners of a new business in downtown Cedar Falls. The Fire Gallery is located at 4th and State Street, in the former Wolverton Printing building. The Fire Gallery name came from the idea that a fireplace can be displayed as a piece of art in either a home or business. A fireplace can be used not only as an efficient source of heat but also a form of artwork. Their business features fireplaces produced by Heat & Glow, Quadra-fire, or Heatilator. While gas fireplaces are still a very popular choice, fireplaces that burn corn, wood pellets and sunflower seeds are gaining ground. High natural gas prices are turning customers to look at alternative fuel sources that are efficient, yet burn clean. The Harms currently have a fireplace in their home that burns less than five gallons of corn in a 24-hour period. Their business has been booming and they are very busy with winter weather on the way. During the summer months, while business is a little slower, they also sell patio furniture. If you are interested in additional information, please check out their website at: http://www.thefiregallery.com/

CHRISTMAS SEASON TRIVIA

▪ "Hot cockles" was a popular game at Christmas in medieval times. It was a game in which the other players took turns striking the blindfolded player, who had to guess the name of the person delivering each blow. "Hot cockles" was still a Christmas pastime until the Victorian era.

▪ The best selling Christmas trees are Scotch pine, Douglas fir, Noble fir, Fraser fir, Virginia pine, Balsam fir and white pine.
