Pam Wolter, The Blood Center, spoke to the Club about blood donations in the community. Pam is the vice-president of the Denver Chapter of the Lions Club and is involved with the Cedar Valley Paddlers organization and the Denver Tree Board. The Mission statement of the Blood Center of Iowa is: We save lives by creating access to a safe blood supply in partnership with the communities we serve. The Blood Center has been a non-profit organization in Iowa since 1963 and has had a presence in Cedar Falls since 2003. The local Blood Center is the sole contractor to provide blood to 49 hospitals in 14 counties. 37% of the general population is eligible to donate blood but less than 5% of the population does. Statistics indicate that by the age of 72, 95% of people will have required blood during some point in their life. The Blood Center is dedicated to a set of enduring beliefs that are the foundation for everything we do. These values help the organization and its commitment to their customers, their community and their staff. Quality – The Blood Center will provide customers with only the highest quality products and services, on time, and in the best possible way, through continuous improvement in the quality of their work and people. Integrity – The Blood Center will adhere to a strict code of ethics and will promote honesty, fairness and moral behaviors. Respect – The Blood Center will exercise full regard for the contributions and needs of all people and processes affected by their organization.
