LAST MEETING (June 4th)

 

Mark Miller, President of the Cedar River Environmental Group (CREG) spoke to the club about river related activities underway. Formerly known and the Cedar River Festival, CREG’s goals are aimed at improving the water quality of the Cedar River. Among their activities include environmental education, water monitoring and 2-3 river cleanups annually. Achievements in 2006 included: Water quality monitoring of Dry Run Creek, removed ½ ton of debris and garbage from Dry Run Creek, during the 18 annual Cedar River cleanup and music festival, five tons of debris and garbage and 51 tires were removed from the river corridor. In 2007, the group hopes to continue to install “No Dumping” markers on all of the storm sewer intakes in Cedar Falls. On Wednesday, May 23rd, the eye-glasses/hearing aids committee consisting of Cliff Satre, Don Feuerhak, Bob Leahy and Budd Curttright picked up a total of 583 used eye-glasses. The Dan Deery Motor Company donated a van that the committee used for their work.
