PRESIDENTS MESSAGE (July 9th)

As Steve and I were “switching gavels” last week, he showed me a listing of current Club members that have served as President over the years.  I was both impressed and humbled by the talent and leadership that has been devoted to our local Lions Club over the years.  I’m one who believes we don’t often take the time and effort to properly thank those that give their volunteer time to worthy causes, so I’m taking the time to that right now.  THANKS to all of you Lions that have contributed to our Club’s well-being over the years.  It’s easy to forget about all the work involved….fundraising details, meeting and meal arrangements, weekly programs, editing the Roar, committee and board assignments, financial records, secretarial record-keeping, membership efforts, special events, eye-screening, glasses and hearing aid collections, etc.  Pat yourselves on the back if I don’t do it for you.  Your efforts have contributed to making the Cedar Falls Lions Club one of the strongest in the State.

I hope to continue in this fine line of volunteerism.  Membership has flourished in recent years, and I am hopeful we can continue to boost numbers in the year ahead.  We’ll continue with our “staple” events.  I’m always open to new ideas and would encourage any member with thoughts or brainstorms about any new Club initiative or change to visit with me about their thoughts.

Just a few words about our annual Picnic, scheduled to occur on August 20th.  Lion Ericson has really stepped up to make this event a great time…excellent food and fun for all.  Eight or nine of you volunteered to assist Chuck with the event this year.  THANKS.  An event that big requires lots of extra hands.  Volunteers Newcomb, Hagarty, Boals, Cavin, King, Downs, Haskins, Wood and Page should look to Chuck for direction.  Most important, he’ll need you at the Rotary Reserve at 3:30 the day of the event.  Be sure to make a note on your calendar to attend.

We Serve……John Page
