PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE (August 13th)

It’s August and that means its time for our Lions Club Annual Picnic.  Don’t show up for lunch at the Women’s Club next Monday (no meeting that day), but do show up for dinner that evening at the Rotary Reserve.  Bring your appetite along as well.  Lions Ericson and Cavin never disappoint.  Appetizers, dinner and dessert are normally standard fare, although the menu is subject to last minute adjustments by those that cook.

It bears repeating that lots of planning, time and effort are spent on this event.  Thanks very much to all of you that have volunteered to help out….others are counting on you.  The picnic brings to mind thoughts of great food, drink, music, laughs and prizes.  Remember……bring your own tableware (plates, silverware, etc.).  Please plan to attend and have a great time.

We Serve ……… John Page

LAST MEETING (August 6th)

The Club was fortunate to have a few energetic speakers at our last meeting. Tony DiCecco started things off by describing his current role with the UNI Athletic Department. His duties include fundraising, marketing and promotion for the women's sports teams. His main goal is to increase attendance at the women's events. To do this, UNI is looking to add staff to the marketing department and increase event planning to bring attention to the programs. Tony hopes to bring in Master's Champion, Zack Johnson and maybe even Chicago Cubs Coach Lou Pinnela. One promotion this year includes the opportunity to purchase the "Panther Pack" ticket books. It includes 25 tickets for $50 that can be used at any women's event that requires admission fees. On September 5th, the first annual Women's Kickoff Breakfast will occur at 7:00 am. The $5.00 cost includes breakfast and a ticket to the UNI - ISU Women's Volleyball game and the UNI-Evansville soccer match. Megan Schoeberl talked briefly about the upcoming season and the excitement that surrounds that. Coach "Kat" also shared her enthusiasm about soccer in the Cedar Valley and how her current team has grown, both as athletes and students. This years season looks to be one of the toughest schedules in history with competition from both the Big 12 and Big 10, as well as conference foes. With seven seniors on the team, hopes are high that it will be a great season.
