UNI Named a 'Best Business School' by Princeton Review

The University of Northern Iowa College of Business Administration is an outstanding business school, according to The Princeton Review. The New York-based education services company selected the school for inclusion in the 2007 edition of its book, "Best 282 Business Schools" (Random House/Princeton Review Books, $22.95), now available in bookstores.

According to Robert Franek, vice president and publisher, Princeton Review, schools are selected based on three criteria: "our regard for their academic programs and other offerings, institutional data we collect about them, and opinions of students attending the schools. We are very pleased to feature UNI in our book. We highly commend it to readers of the book and users of our website as one of the best institutions they could attend to earn an MBA."

"We have built a small and selective MBA program here in the Cedar Valley, and it is gratifying to receive recognition from a source such as Princeton Review, which is internationally respected for its independence," said Farzad Moussavi, dean of UNI's College of Business Administration.

"The professionals who complete our rigorous program have every reason to be proud of their accomplishment," Moussavi added. "Their degree is from a university that is ranked among its peers as one of the best, a business school that is considered one of the best in the world by AACSB International-- the accrediting organization for schools of business-- and a program that, according to Princeton Review, is among the best in the country."

According to Leslie Wilson, associate dean of the college and the MBA program director, this recognition reflects as much on the quality of UNI's undergraduate programs in business as it does on the quality of the MBA program.

"The UNI MBA program received an academic experience rating of 89," she said. "To put this in perspective, historically, only the most elite institutions score in the 90s, while our peer schools that made it to the list last year scored in the 60s and 70s. This speaks greatly to the quality of our faculty and our curriculum. And, because our MBA faculty members teach and develop curriculum for our undergraduate students as well, this same level of academic quality is available to our entire student body."

A survey of students enrolled in the program serves as a strong basis for the decision to recognize an MBA program. "A friendly environment is balanced with a high caliber of academics creating a small college feel with university opportunities," those surveyed said. "UNI professors are knowledgeable, efficient, friendly, concerned, creative and provide a learning- and result-oriented atmosphere."

Adds another, "It's a great value and the faculty are very accessible. They are passionate about their work and strive to continually improve programs."

The Review concludes that "the university is dedicated to offering coursework that addresses current issues in business and one of the school's greatest strengths is 'the diversity of the classes and the desire to incorporate current issues and trends into the various classes.'"

The book's ratings and rankings are based on institutional data from the schools. Surveys of more than 18,000 students attending the schools profiled in the book were also used. The survey asked students about themselves and their career plans, as well as their schools' academics, student body and campus life. The company is not affiliated with Princeton University.
