Brazil grant leadership team attends FIPSE/CAPES Consortia Conference
The Iowa-Midwest Brazil Exchange of Business and Agriculture grant committee attended the FIPSE/CAPES Consortia Conference held in Washington, D.C. on October 18-20. Grant funding, which was awarded May 2009, will provide stipends for students and faculty to study or research in Brazil beginning July 1, 2010.
Team members present at the conference in Washington were UNIBusiness instructor Chris Schrage, Jose Carvalho of the Universidade de Brasilia, Juarez Oliviera from the Univerisdade Federal de Goias, Anne Doyle and Nancy Henderson of Hawkeye Community College, and Dawn Wood of Kirkwood Community College. The team visited the Brazilian Embassy for a reception with Ambassador Antonio de Aguiar Patriota.
The overall vision for the FIPSE grant is to provide the foundation for long-term, productive relations between Iowan and Brazilian partners and accomplish the shared goal of expanding international education opportunities for students early in their academic careers. The focus areas of this project are to enhance curriculum, implement student and faculty exchanges, adopt technology-based distance learning, and establish practicum opportunities with businesses in both Iowa and Brazil.
