Research Interests
Interests include water resources (surface water and groundwater hydrology); groundwater contaminant fate & transport; site remediation technologies; urban surface/storm water quality; environmental GIS applications; environmental geology/geomorphology; biofuel processes and environmental implications; and surface finishing technologies/processes/trouble-shooting.
Responsibilities
Brian has been providing environmental compliance and technical assistance to Iowa's small business community for approximately 15 years. Prior to joining the IWRC, he was a hydrogeologist with an environmental engineering firm. In addition to providing regulatory assistance with air quality requirements, solid waste, and hazardous waste, Brian often provides on-site technical and training assistance to businesses in regard to metal finishing pretreatment and spray finishing. He has also performed numerous case study projects involving waste water characterization and reduction, spray finishing, and metal finishing pretreatment.
Professional Accomplishments

Since joining the IWRC, he has written over a dozen articles for trade magazines, professional organizations, and environmental journals on wastewater characterization studies, spray finishing processes, and environmental regulations. He has also co-authored a number of publications for a variety of geological journals including Economic Geology and Computers & Geosciences. He also developed and coordinated the IWRC's Painting & Coating Process Training Program from 1997 to 2004.
