Gaylon Halverson Professorship
The Gaylon Halverson Professorship was established in 2003 by a group of UNI alumni to honor the strong tradition of excellence in Accounting education initiated under the leadership of Gaylon "Doc" Halverson.

This award honors both Gaylon "Doc" Halverson and the faculty who are the recipients of the professorship. Gaylon Halverson joined the UNI faculty in 1963. He was instrumental in creating UNI's nationally renowned accounting program and was the department head from 1980-1988. The Halverson Professorship remembers the influence "Doc" Halverson had on countless accounting alumni. It is awarded to UNI faculty who continue the tradition of excellence.
Dr. Martha Wartick, July 2008 - Present
Dr. Martha Wartick is the current Halverson Professor of Accounting. As the Accounting department head, Dr. Wartick is an influential leader in research, teaching, and service in the accounting field. She exemplifies the teacher/scholar model while providing leadership to the department and college. Wartick obtained her Ph.D. and M.S. from Pennsylvania State University and her B.B.S. from Pittsburg State University. She began her career teaching at Pennsylvania State University. She also taught at the University of Missouri-St. Louis and the University of Oklahoma before coming to UNI.

The first four holders of the Gaylon Halverson Professorship were
recognized for the distinguished contributions each made in building
UNI's accounting program. These faculty members in particular helped
establish the tradition of excellence that the UNI Accounting faculty
continue today.
Professor Ronald Abraham, Spring 2005
In the Spring of 2005, Professor Ronald Abraham received the Halverson Professorship in Teaching Excellence. He has been part of the accounting faculty at UNI since 1974. He earned his B.B.A. in 1970 from the University of Wisconsin-Madison and his M.B.A. in 1971. Abraham began his accounting career at Ernst & Young as an office coordinator for computerized audits and later as a senior accountant-audit staff.
Professor LaVerne Andressen, Spring 2004
Professor LaVerne Andressen held the Halverson Professorship in Accounting from the Spring of 2004 to the Spring of 2005. He started his career at UNI as an assistant professor in 1976. Andressen received his B.A. (1961) from UNI as a business education major with an accounting emphasis. He began teaching at West Delaware Community School in 1961 and returned to UNI for his M.A. in 1966. Andressen served as a staff accountant with Price Waterhouse & Co. and Dee Gosling & Co., and was a controller for Hutchinson, Inc.
Professor Lee Nicholas, Fall 2004
In the Fall of 2004, Professor Lee Nicholas received the Halverson Professorship. He started his career at UNI in 1974. He received his B.S. (1962) from the University of Kansas and his M.B.A. (1970) from the University of Tulsa. He worked at Skelly Oil Company in Tulsa as a natural gas accounting supervisor, corporate reporting and analysis supervisor, and corporate tax accountant. He started his teaching career at Tulsa Junior College.
Dr. Darrel Davis, Fall 2003
Dr. Darrel Davis was recognized as the Halverson Professorship recipient in the Fall of 2003. He started his career at UNI as an associate professor of Accounting in 1975. He received his M.A. (1969) and B.A. (1965) from UNI. He then worked at Price Waterhouse & Co. and served as a battalion operations NCO for the United States Army in Europe, taught at Oklahoma State University and the University of Texas. He then got his Ph.D. from Oklahoma State University in 1975.
