Excellence in Education is a Team Effort

The College of Business Administration (CBA) offers an impressive list of opportunities for academic enrichment, career development and international experience. Providing these opportunities requires a heavy investment not just in funds, but in effort and dedication on the part of students, faculty, staff, and benefactors. Excellence in education is a team effort. We would like for you to be part of our team. Consider a few ways you can support our students.

Financial Support
Competing in business requires constant improvement in technology, facilities, and intellectual assets. Universities must do the same. Thanks to the generosity of our alumni and friends, the CBA offers students the added resources needed to prepare for productive careers and meaningful lives. Learn more about how you can help.

Mentoring
Bring insight and experience to a CBA student by becoming a mentor. Simply stay in touch with a UNI student. Provide job shadowing opportunities. The ways that you can mentor a student are abundant and mutually satisfying.

Student Recruitment
Share your experiences and generate interest in UNIBusiness programs by talking to prospective students and their families about UNI and the College of Business Administration. You can help prospective students learn how the CBA can prepare them for their career and help them build better lives.

Event Speaker
Bring a glimpse of your professional life to events sponsored by UNIBusiness student organizations. Students often join organizations to learn more about the work world that lies ahead. You can help them prepare for their careers by sharing your ups and downs.

Classroom Teaching
Perhaps you are anxious to share what you have learned in your professional life? Perhaps as a student you felt you could be better than those in front of your classrooms? Why not give it a try? The CBA often has opportunities for adjunct faculty members who can bring business to the classroom.

Internships
Contact career counselors Joan Smothers or Laura Wilson by email or 319-273-2144 for information about temporarily adding UNI students to your workfoce. Internships allow students to use their developing skills while better understanding the demanding pace of business.

Advisory Board Member
Advisory Boards are crucial in helping the College stay abreast of the new challenges facing business. As a board member, you can share the professional experience you have acquired to help the College maintain its excellence.

Business Development
Contribute your experience and knowledge to emerging business professionals. UNI’s Business and Community Services programs offer opportunities to serve on advisory boards for outreach programs and startup ventures. For more information, contact Randy Pilkington, BCS Executive Director (319-273-6941).

The College of Business Administration has a long tradition of delivering high quality, rigorous coursework. The CBA also offers a growing array of extraordinary opportunities outside the classroom. About 97 percent of our students come from Iowa, and the large majority that stays in Iowa after graduation sustains Iowa’s business community. These facts oblige the CBA to complement our students’ traditional Midwestern strengths with the personal skills and perspectives that will allow them to excel in a complex, global economy. Help from our alumni and friends is vital to continuing the educational excellence for CBA students.

Think about joining our effort to build an increasingly effective and prominent business school. Direct any questions you may have to Dean Farzad Moussavi, at 319-273-6240 or by email.
