Support for professional development in finance reaches a new milestone
G. Carl Scheweser Professorship Announced
In 1998 Dr. G. Carl Schweser, a leader in the development of Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA®) instruction materials, established a UNI fund to support professional development in financial analysis.
We have been offering the Scheweser-supported enhancement program for only six years, and UNI students already consistently pass the CFA® Level I Examination at a rate twice the global average. Dedicated students spend nearly every Friday afternoon and Saturday morning of the Spring semester, in addition to Spring Break week, in the financial analysis seminar series with an equally dedicated finance professor, Mir Zaman.
Each year, as an increasing number of students take an interest in their own professional development, the College has found itself in the enviable but troubling position of having more dedicated, capable students than resources to support their efforts. We are particularly pleased, therefore, that Dr. G. Carl Schweser has continued to give generously to the College's financial analysis programs, providing expertise, instructional materials and financial support. Dr. Schweser's most recent commitment was a challenge gift that has been matched and ultimately exceeded, thanks to the generosity of scores of alumni and corporate donors. In recognition of Dr. Schweser, the College is pleased to announce the endowment of the G. Carl Schweser Financial Analysis Professorship, currently held by Professor Zaman.
Schweser said, "The professorship reflects UNI's commitment to professional education, which has been seen for years in the Accounting Department's preparation of students to take the CPA exam. The Finance department is already demonstrating the same kind of exemplary performance. The CFA® designation recognizes ethics and fair behavior in the financial markets. Preparation for the CFA® exam enables UNI graduates to attain the kind of career in finance that is typically available only to individuals from bigger states and bigger schools."
