The Price of Success
Extra effort produces excellence. Students choose to spend their Saturdays in class, take an extra semester to complete an internship, or work to learn another language. Faculty and staff dedicate themselves to building relationships with potential internship businesses or developing the professional expertise required to guide students. Donors give generously of their time, their company resources, and their funds. Over the years, the College of Business Administration has developed a team that includes faculty, staff, students, alumni and friends. The team's success is evident in the results, from the CPA or CFA® pass rates, to career opportunities for business students, to the public recognition of the College's educational excellence.
The financial needs of the College continue to grow, and we are able to fully sustain its programs only through the generous commitment of our alumni and friends. As a UNIBusiness benefactor, like David W. Wilson, your financial contributions can reflect your personal values or interests. If your interest is in international business or professional finance education, for instance, you may contribute to programs such as the China exchange or the CFA® financial analysis program. Or, your gifts may be more broadly distributed for student scholarships, travel expenses or career preparation in any business major. Small gifts can be combined to create wonderful opportunities, while larger gifts can support a full program, endow a chair or professorship, or improve the College's physical facilities.
Your contributions have become even more important as the
State of Iowa has reduced its assistance to UNI education.
The current generation of students receives less financial support from the state than you did. Until a few short years ago, the State of Iowa contributed 70 percent of the cost of a university education, but now pays less than 50 percent. Tuition has risen significantly, eroding our students ability to pay for the basics of tuition, books and living expenses. Enhancements such as international travel, professional exams, or an extra semester for an internship are beyond the reach of far too many. Endowments and donations have become increasingly important for the College to continue its tradition of excellence.
If youd like to help but dont have a specific program in mind, consider making a contribution to the Dean's Fund for Excellence. This general fund can be used to support any of the specific programs already mentioned. The Dean's Fund allow's the College to direct resources to new activities that are important to our mission and strategic position, to respond quickly and flexibly to students needs and business opportunities, and to more efficiently use our limited resources.
