Academic Competitions

In sports, an athlete’s preparation is challenged each time he or she competes. UNI College of Business Administration students have the same opportunity to test intellectual strengths. The academic competitions listed below allow students to test the strength of their business knowledge as well as their writing and presentation skills. Several also provide opportunities to travel to a different country to compete against teams from all over the world.

Network of International Business Schools (NIBS) Case Analysis Competition
The NIBS competition tests problem solving, decision making, and presentation skills on top of challenging students' business "IQ". Teams compete by analyzing business cases.  During the qualifying round, held in November, team members complete a case analysis that defines the business problem, provides alternative solutions, makes a solution recommendation, and provides a plan for implementation. The eight strongest teams compete in the final round at a host university where the teams analyze cases and orally present their findings to the judges.  The University of Northern Iowa is the only US team to have participated in the final rounds of competition. UNI has competed in New Zealand, Montreal, Newfoundland, and France.  For more information, contact Chris Schrage, the NIBS team advisor, at Christine.Schrage@uni.edu.
