Short-Term Study Abroad

Most of our short-term study courses are focused on a specific country or region, and area of study. By traveling with a professor and other students from the university, a student with minimal second language skills can gain essential first-hand experience in a different culture. Short-term study abroad provides a high level of contemporary professional skill development for the student whose life responsibilities preclude semester-long absences. UNIBusiness is particularly pleased to offer three short-term programs in addition to those offered by other UNI colleges.

Socio-Economic Reality of Central America -- A Liberal Arts Core Capstone Course

This course is focused on understanding the impact of culture on the work environment. What better way is there to learn but through experience? This faculty-led liberal arts capstone course, offered through the College of Business Administration, requires that students travel to Nicaragua and experience working side-by-side with Nicaraguans to help improve their community. The course is offered each May term. Students spend approximately two weeks in Nicaragua. Students should contact Chris Schrage, Department of Management, for more information, or click here.

Moscow Research Exchange

Gain an international perspective in business with the Moscow Exchange program. UNI students and their counterparts from Plekhanov Russian Academy of Economics (PRAE) spend a semester focusing on one topic. During the semester, a select group of UNI students travel to Moscow, and PRAE students visit the UNI campus. During their visits, students from both institutions make presentations on research topics and host each other in their home countries. Students should contact Fred Abraham, Department of Economics, for more information.

Global Skills -- A Liberal Arts Core Capstone Course

This faculty-led capstone course is designed to enhance a student’s knowledge of and capability for working in a variety of environments throughout the world. Getting practical experience in society with very deep historical roots provides insight for adapting to a variety of cultures. This course provides both language (Mandarin) and interpersonal skill development. Students study culture in Beijing and then travel to Dalian for language study at Dalian Nationalities University (DNU). DNU students join UNI students during the Global Skills class sessions and partner for social events. Students are in China for approximately three weeks during the month of June. Students should contact Chris Schrage, Department of Management, for more information, or click here.
