Student Research Guidelines

Undergraduates in good academic standing who are majoring in a CBA discipline and who have arranged for a faculty member to supervise the research project may apply for an URP Award.

Applicants must provide the following information on their URP Award Application:

A brief description of the proposed research project.
An itemized budget specifying the anticipated funding needs, if any.
A project schedule/timetable listing the dates when various stages of the project will be completed.
A summary plan for how the results of the project will be disseminated.
The signatures of the applicant, supervising faculty member, Department Head, and Dean.

If a project involves human subjects (e.g., questionnaires, surveys, interviews), the researcher must complete an on-line tutorial at http://cme.nci.nih.gov/, then submit a Human Subjects Review Form to the UNI Institutional Review Board. This form and additional information are available at http://www.grad.uni.edu/research/protocol.asp. Researchers should allow a minimum of two weeks for project review and approval.

Award recipients are required to present their research to faculty and students at the URP Seminar in April. A copy of the finished work, along with its dissemination status, must be submitted to the Department Head at the conclusion of the project. Award recipients are encouraged, though not required, to submit their research for publication and/or presentation at a conference. In most cases, award recipients are able to secure University funding to cover all of their conference expenses; the primary source of funding is the UNI Intercollegiate Academic Fund. Additional information is available at http://www.uni.edu/vpaa/iaf/.
