CBA Multimedia Room Key Policy
Updated Spring 2007

A brief orientation is required of anyone who will be using the multimedia equipment in the Curris Business Building classrooms. For students, orientation will usually occur in classes, but if individual training is needed, please contact the CBA Info Tech office (CBB 216; 273-7969; email cbatech@uni.edu) to arrange training time well before access is needed. CBA Info Tech permits no exceptions to the "orientation" requirement - for students, faculty, or staff! Each summer we remove approved users from the database if they have not checked out a key within the previous year, regardless of when their training took place. Therefore, if you have never checked out a key or if considerable time has passed since your last checkout, you will be asked to have a "refresher" orientation.

After your orientation, cabinet keys to the multimedia equipment in the Curris Business Building can be checked out in 216 with a photo ID. During the fall and spring semesters, staff should be available in the office during regular business hours (8 AM - 5 PM). During academic breaks and summer session, the office is not fully staffed so check out arrangements should be made well ahead of time.

Late/Lost Keys: Keys returned late, but within one week of the due date, will incur a late fee of $1 per class day overdue. The late fee will be waived for the first day of the first overdue return. After the second incident of failing to return a key by the due date, check out privileges may be revoked. Keys that are not returned by one week past their due date will be considered "not returned." A re-keying fee of $25 may be imposed on any user who fails to return a key.
Groups eligible to check out keys, and guidelines for each, are described below. Please note: Semester-long check out of keys is impermissible except for those teaching in the building.

1. UNI Faculty: All UNI Faculty members teaching in the CBB, including adjuncts, will be issued keys to the equipment after completing a brief, required, orientation. Adjuncts and non-CBA faculty will be asked to return the keys at the end of each semester. Each faculty member will be issued only one key. No charge will be imposed unless the key is not returned.

2. CBA students enrolled in CBA classes will be allowed to check out keys (with a photo ID) for a two-day time period after completing the required orientation (keys checked out Thursday or Friday will be due Monday). No charge will be imposed unless the key is not returned on time. One "renewal" (for keys returned on time) will be permitted for an additional 2 days EXCEPT during the three weeks prior to final exams when demand usually exceeds supply. Students not enrolled in CBA classes can obtain keys under the "occasional use" provision below.

3. Occasional Use: Very occasional, or one-time use by UNI students, faculty or staff will be supported on an ad-hoc basis. Training, as described above, is required of ALL users and the standard two-day check out period will normally apply.

4. Conferences: When multimedia access is requested by a non-UNI group, a fee of $50 per half day will be charged.
