Mahmood Yousefi Scholarship

 
The Mahmood Yousefi Economics Scholarship was funded by a gift from Rachelle Yousefi in memory of her husband, Dr. Mahmood Yousefi. The award goes annually to an economics major who meets the goals of scholarship, need and attitude consistent with the standards set by Dr. Yousefi.

Dr. Yousefi joined the Economics Department at UNI in August 1981 as an Associate Professor of Economics. In 1987, he was promoted to the rank of Full Professor. From 1996 to 1997, he was the University of Northern Iowa's Assistant Vice- President for Academic Affairs.

In his long and distinguished career, he authored over fifty articles and book chapters as well as three books. In 1994, he received the prestigious Regents' Award for Faculty Excellence. In 1996, he received the College of Business Administration's Alumni Distinguished Scholarship Award, and in 1998 he received the College of Business Administration's Alumni Distinguished Service Award.

Mahmood Yousefi died on December 9, 1999 after a long struggle with ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease).

Full-time Economics majors who will be seniors in the fall semester are eligible to apply for this scholarship.
