Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory Study Resources and Recommended End of the Chapter Problems UNI Professor Kanago
Study Resources for Intermediate Macroeconomic Theory Textbook Your textbook is Macroeconomics sixth edition by Andrew Abel and Ben S. Bernanke and Dean Croushore. Both Abel and Bernanke have PhD’s from MIT one of the top economics programs in the world and are widely published in economics journals. Abel won an award for teaching excellence. Bernanke is the current Chair of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve. Croushore was an economist at the Philadelphia Federal Reserve and now teaches at the University of Richmond. The text is well written, through, and provides interesting applications. Chapter Summaries Each chapter of your text has a summary of key points. These provide a way to review the material and a way to test your understanding. If one of the summaries points is unclear, review it in the text or come to my office for help. Key Terms At the end of each chapter there is a list of key terms with the page number on which each was defined. The text also has a glossary where you can find definitions. Key Equations At the end of each chapter key equations are listed and explained. Key Diagrams At the end of each chapter there is a review and explanation of all key diagrams from the chapter. Since many questions on the exam will concern graphs, you should understand how they are derived and how to apply them. End of the Chapter Problems At the end of each chapter there are review questions, numerical problems, analytical problems, and data problems. The review questions and some of the numerical and analytical questions will help you better understand the material and provide practice for some exam questions. Below is a list of the end of chapter problems I recommend. You may borrow answers to the questions from me. Studying the text and doing at least some of the recommended end of the chapter problems are very important to learning the material and doing well on the quizzes and exams! Study Guide The study guide has chapter outlines and exercises with answers. Although the multiple choice questions are on average somewhat easy to provide you practice, they provide one way to study for the multiple-choice questions on the exams. My Econ Lab There is a companion site to the text. It has a variety of things to help you learn the material. Some of the more useful things are practice quizzes, flashcards, and animated explanations of key diagrams. The web link is www.myeconlab.com/abel. The course ID is kanago48400 Office Hours, Appointments, and Email I encourage you to study outside of class and to spend some time trying to master the material on your own. However, if there is any material that you are having trouble with, please stop by during office hours, make an appointment to see me, or send me an email. Seeking help is most useful when you have specific questions, but I can also talk to you about study strategies.
